The text from Brandon that sent me into panic mode. How did I forget? Did I miss it? Could I see it? Where's my telephoto lens and neutral density filter? Shoes? No, just RUN!
I ran out of the house -- camera in hand and only socks on my feet. Searching through the trees for the sun.
I didn't see anything that looked like it was the start of an eclipse. Did I miss it?
I climbed up the hill of what used to be elevated rail road tracks. Wait, was that it? I stopped down my camera as much as I could so that only a small amount of light would be coming in (shooting straight into the sun can burn up your sensor, much like your eyes.) With my filter on as well, I put it in live view so I could "see" the effect of the higher aperture and filter.
I shot this just before the sun dipped below the tree line.
Then I ran inside to grab shoes. First ones I saw were flip-flops. I ran through the hay field, past the tree line, in flip-flops. Sadly, the trees were not much shorter on that side and the sun was gone.
The sky lit up as the sun set.
I ran back home through the hay field. I don't suggest anyone run through hay fields in flip-flops :)
This past Sunday, there was an annular solar eclipse. Because of where we were (in south Louisiana), we were only able to observe a partial eclipse before the sun dipped below the horizon. Were you able to see it where you were?
